Connecting Trimble Field Link To Virtual Layout
Problem: How to Connect Virtual Layout to Trimble Field Link Office.
Solution: Virtual Layout HOW-TO
Setup and Install
1. Copy the Virtual Layout Folder on to your PC;
2. Make sure your current TFL version is licensed for Virtual Layout. Or Install <Trimble Field Link Install.exe> on your PC.
3. Install Latest Build of Virtual Layout on your PC, from folder <Virtual Layout_Build 6>
a. Virtual Layout as of now is a BETA and does not automatically place a shortcut on your desktop. If you would like a shortcut you will have to do it manually.
4. Print out the <Virtual Layout_Controls Reference Sheet.pdf> for reference of the controls for Virtual Layout
5. Copy the sample files into your TFL Jobs Folder.
You are now ready to use Virtual Layout in conjunction with TFL. Please not it works best if you have two monitors, one to view each program.
Usage
1. Launch Virtual Layout
a. Press "Play" button
b. Press "A" to continue
c. Press "ESC" to view Host and Port dialog box
d. Select an IP address from the Host drop down (if "localhost" is available do not select it) and press "Apply Changes"
e. Close the Host and Port dialog box
f. Press "ESC" again to verify the Port has changed to 4545 and close the Host and Port dialog box
2. Launch TFL
3. Load the Virtual Layout sample files
4. In "Device" select the "VL" button
a. Populate the IP address and Port with the appropriate info and press "Connect"
5. Use your joystick in TFL to turn the robot to the virtual operator and locate the Prism
a. The robot will "auto-lock" onto the prism when close)
b. Once locked on exit the Joystick feature
6. Set up the instrument on the virtual job site by shooting in control points
a. In the Virtual Layout Window use your direction keys to walk the virtual operator over to the control points
b. In the TFL window select the control point you want to shoot and once the virtual operator is on that point press the "Measure" button.
c. Repeat with your second control point
i. Note; The Virtual Model is a bit off from the TFL model and points so your setup tolerance may not be exactly zero. For Demo purposes this is ok.
ii. Note; After setup do not press the "SHIFT" key in the virtual environment, it moves the robot to the location your virtual operator is standing and you will have to do a new setup.
7. Proceed to Layout or Collect Data by switching between the TFL window for selecting points and the VL window for movement and orientation.
